AUSTIN -- Mike Thompson is an Austinite who has battled a great deal to be where he is today.

He's endured dozens of surgeries and treatments in his short 26-year-old life and survived cancer four times. Now he has his sights set to endure another type of feat - an Ironman triathlon.

Thompson hopes to complete the 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling and 26.2 miles of running in Kona, Hawaii at the Ironman World Championship in October.

To get there, he needs your help. Eight athletes will be chosen to participate in the race based on votes through the Kona Inspired contest.

Click the player above to hear more about Mike's remarkable life and how you can vote to get him to the race of his dreams. Voting ends July 3.
