KABUL (PAN): The finance ministry described the civilian assistance pledged to Afghanistan at the Tokyo conference as a big achievement, but cautioned that such aid would be ineffective, like in the past, if global donors failed to understand ground realities.?
International donors promised id="mce_marker"6 billion in aid, at the Tokyo conference on Sunday, to stabilise Afghan?s economy and sustain development for next four years and during the transformation years (2015 to 2025).
In a statement, the ministry said 22 key economic strategies outlined by Afghan experts were ?in line with last decade?s experience -- keeping in view of the country?s economic needs -- prioritising good governance, agriculture sector, rural development, improvement of private sector and fundamental economic projects.?
According to the ministry, with the implementation of these relevant strategies, Afghanistan?s economy could emerge strong by 2025 and able to provide good services to the people, and rely on revenues generated through domestic resources.
?The finance ministry of Afghanistan is keen to bring reforms in the delivery system of foreign assistance and is trying to gather the international community to draft a comprehensive strategy on how to manage the aid.'' ?
Donors and Afghanistan should jointly work to ensure foreign aid is put to effective use and aimed at meeting the challenges of the coming decade, it said.
