Notice is hereby given that the Council of the County of Kaua'i will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., or soon thereafter, at the Kaua'i Community College Performing Arts Center, 3-1901 Kaumuali'i Highway, Lihu'e, on the following:

A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE KAUA'I COUNTY CODE 1987, AS AMENDED, BY ADDING A NEW ARTICLE 22 TO CHAPTER 22, RELATING TO PESTICIDES AND GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS

This Bill proposes to establish provisions governing the use of pesticides and genetically modified organisms by requiring applicable entities to make various disclosures related to all pesticides and all genetically modified organisms; requiring buffer zones for applicable entities; addressing open air testing of experimental pesticides; requiring a temporary moratorium regarding genetically modified organisms; addressing an Environmental Impact Statement; addressing permitting; addressing open air testing of experimental genetically modified organisms; and addressing issues incident to implementation, enforcement, and applicability.

All interested persons who wish to present their comments may do so at the public hearing. Written testimonies prior to the hearing would be appreciated. Copies of the proposed ordinance are available at the Office of the County Clerk, Council Services Division.

(The Council Committee or Council may amend this Bill at its subsequent meetings. Meeting notices are posted at least 6 days in advance at the County Clerk's Office and the public may also testify at any of these meetings.)
