Pet Facts 101: Spiders

They?re creepy, they?re crawly but they?re also?pets? Yes! Contrary to popular belief, spiders make wonderful pets and can be fascinating to watch. Not only are spiders a great way for young children to learn responsibility, they are also easy to come by! You can purchase a spider through a pet store, or look around your area for one. At MyPetSavings, we are happy to give you information about all different types of pets! Here are some interesting facts about spiders:

- Spiders belong to a group of animals called arachnids. Arachnids are creatures with two body segments, eight legs, no wings or antennae and are not able to chew. Many people think that spiders are insects but they are mistaken since insects have six legs and three main body parts.
- For its weight, spider web silk is actually stronger and tougher than steel.
- There are around 40,000 different species of spider.
- Spiders are found on every continent of the world except Antarctica.
- Studies have shown that you?re never more than ten feet away from a spider.

Although most people have a fear of them, only a select number of spiders are actually harmful to humans. If you?re looking for a pet that requires little to no maintenance, then a pet spider is perfect for you.
