Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update Reportedly Released To GSM Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 10 And 7: How To Install It Manually [Tutorial]

It was Reddit user WeeManFoo, who was apparently one of the first ones to receive the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update on his GSM Galaxy Nexus. Here?s how his post on Reddit read:

After doing a quick Google and Reddit search, it seems like I'm one of the first to get it.

*Edit 1: screenshot http://i.imgur.com/SoGKPYA.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/SoGKPYA.png

*Edit 2: Tested out bluetooth streaming in my car. Much less hiccups when streaming from Rdio or GMusic, but still not perfect. I got disconnected from my stereo when it switched from WiFi to 3G.

*Edit 3: The differences I'm noticing are that the notification shade drop down animation is slower and I think the icon in the top right is different after you change to the quick settings screen. I also think the regular settings screen might be a slightly lighter grey. Other than those things and the bluetooth being better, I don't see anything else.

*Edit 4: The icon isn't changed.

Android Police reported that the firmware update that carries the build number JDQ39 is apparently 47.6MB of size. The report also stated that a number of users on Google+, including Marco Duran, had also received the update and had sent across screen shots of the same.

However, there has not been any word on Nexus 4 getting the same update. But?according to Android Central, ?if the rest of the Nexuses are getting it, the Nexus 4 will be on that train too.?

Below is a tutorial, provided by Android Police, which explains the manual process of installing Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (JDQ39) on the GSM Galaxy Nexus.

Note

- The device should be running on build JOP40D (You can find the factory image here)

- If you have a custom recovery, download the zip, move it to your device, and flash as usual

- If you have the stock recovery, keep the zip file on your computer and follow the instructions below

In addition, the users must proceed at their own risk. IBTimes cannot be held responsible for anything that goes wrong.

Procedure

Step 1: Reboot the Galaxy Nexus and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons while it boots up. After you see the fastboot menu and "Start," press Volume Up to navigate to "Recovery" and press the power button.

Step 2: After you see an Android with a red exclamation point icon, press Volume Up and the Power button together to bring you a new menu. Navigate to "apply update from adb."

Step 3: Connect the Galaxy Nexus to your computer with a USB cable.

Step 4: Ensure you have a recent version of adb (Android Debug Bridge) that supports the sideload command. In case you don?t have, you can download the latest Android SDK (Android software development kit) here to ensure that your adb is up-to-date.

Step 5: Now open up a command prompt (cmd in Windows, regular shell in Linux and Mac) in the same directory as the zip file that you've downloaded.

Step 6: Type the following:

adb sideload 472aafeb9fe3.signed-takju-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.472aafeb.zip

(After doing this, you will notice a progress bar that will ultimately reach 100 percent)

Step 7: Once the process is complete, reboot the device.

Your GSM Galaxy Nexus will now be running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
