CHARLOTTE - A Charlotte church is putting its growing congregation to work, helping area non-profits better serve their communities.

Elevation Church's fourth annual "Love Week" kicked off Saturday morning. For the next nine days, they have more than 800 events planned with more than 150 organizations.

Around 30 volunteers started their weekend sanding, painting and assembling at Beds for Kids, a non-profit that works to provide a bed and other essential furniture to every child and family in need in Charlotte.

"To date we've delivered almost 1,500 beds in our community, and we have another 6,000-plus, that we know of to go, so help is always needed," said Executive Director Daniel Fogarty.

A few miles away, another group was busy giving an office makeover to Hope Cancer Ministries. The non-profit supports cancer patients and their families in a growing number of ways from providing a hot meal, to a phone call of support before their first round of chemotherapy.

"It may seem small, but it makes a huge difference when you're so scared, and you don't know what it's going to feel like, [and] what's going to happen,? said Executive Director Christine Schroeder. ?It helps to have someone who's been there to talk to.?

The non-profit community in the Charlotte-area says this help is crucial to remain open and grow their client base.

"At the end of today alone, I think 15 or 16 kids who woke up this morning on the floor will go to sleep in a bed tonight,? said Fogarty.

"You don't necessarily have to be touched by cancer. If you just have a heart and want to help people, we'll take you," said Schroeder.
