He had been staying out of the public eye a bit more lately, but this summer, former President George H.W. Bush has been in the spotlight.
First, it was an HBO documentary, and this Sunday, he and former First Lady Barbara Bush are on the cover of Parade Magazine.
The two answered questions about their son George, President Clinton, along with this response when asked about Bush 41's "read my lips, no new taxes" promise in 1988, and the anti-tax-raise pledge of activist Grover Norquist signed by many current Republican office holders.
Bush says, "The rigidity of those pledges is something I don't like. The circumstances change and you can't be wedded to some formula by Grover Norquist. It's...who the hell is Grover Norquist, anyway?"
The interview was conducted by presidential historian Mark Updegrove, who heads up the Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library.
